VOAVideo: Slumdog Millionaire No Underdog
One of the strongest contenders for the Best Picture Oscar this year is "Slumdog Millionaire." Set in Mumbai, India, it is a story about destiny. Jamal, a young man from the slums, becomes a contestant in the Indian reality show "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire." Based on its American equivalent, the Indian show offers 20 million rupees to the winner. Directed by filmmaker Danny Boyle, this is an independent production few expected to make it to the Oscars. But "Slumdog" is no longer an underdog. It has won viewers' hearts and has gained critical acclaim.
